Hello! I’m Bella. Welcome to the Home I Wish I’d Had at 25
The Night I couldn’t decide on a paint color

I was 25 when I sat on the floor of my first apartment, a tiny one bedroom where the “dining room” was a hallway with a table squeezed into it surrounded by seventeen paint swatches and cried. Not because the apartment was small. But because every beautiful home I saw online seemed to belong to someone with a bigger budget, a bigger house and some secret knowledge I’d never been given.
I’d spent half my paycheck on a rug that looked nothing like the photo. The peel and stick wallpaper I’d been so excited about was already bubbling at the corners. And my landlord had just reminded me again that I couldn’t paint the walls. I sat there thinking: there has to be someone out there decorating a
I sat there thinking: there has to be someone out there decorating a real home on a real budget, who’ll just tell me the truth about what works. That night became StyleGlowly. (Okay not that exact night. But you get the idea.)
We People Deserve Better Than This
Here’s what the design world doesn’t like to admit: most decorating advice is made for people with money, space and homes they own. The magazines show living rooms bigger than my entire first apartment. The influencers link $400 lamps like that’s a normal Tuesday purchase.
And the tutorials always skip the part where it goes wrong the paint that streaks the shelf that won’t stay level the “easy weekend project” that eats three weekends.
Meanwhile the rest of us are trying to make a rental feel like home a small bedroom feel calm, and a hand me down sofa look intentional. This blog exists because I decided that if no one was going to write honestly about decorating real homes on real budgets, I would.
If You’re Standing in the Same Place I Was
I write for people who love beautiful homes but live real, everyday lives.
You might be:
- Someone decorating their 1st apartment with more dreams than money
- A renter who won’t live in a beige box but can’t paint the walls
- A busy parent trying to make a chaotic house feel calm (good luck, I see you)
- A thrift store hunter who knows the good stuff is always buried under the bad stuff
- Someone who has had their fair share of decorating disasters and wants fewer of them this time
Whichever one you are you’ll find something here. I write the guides I wish someone had handed me back when I was crying over paint swatches.

A Few Things You Should Know About Me
Most About pages tell you how passionate the author is. I am too. But here’s what you’ll actually want to know:
- When I’m stressed I move my furniture around. My family has learned to walk around me.
- I have more throw pillows than any human should ever need. I lost count. My husband hasn’t.
- I once wallpapered an entire accent wall at 11 PM and stepped back to see that every single strip was hung upside down. We don’t talk about the 2023 wallpaper incident.
- I will die on this hill that a $10 thrift find can look better than a $200 store bought piece.
- I test every DIY I put on my own home first. If it doesn’t work, you’ll read about that too.
How StyleGlowly Earns the Right to Be Read
I take what we publish here personally. Because decorating advice is everyplace, and most of it is a waste of your money.
Every StyleGlowly guide is researched and tested before it’s published. Every project goes through my hands first if I wouldn’t do it in my home it doesn’t go on the site.
When a post is a year or older I go back and refresh anything that’s gone stale because trends change, products disappear and advice that was right in 2023 might be wrong now.
If you see a product link that earns us a commission, it’s clearly marked. Never will you have to ask. Those commissions pay the bills and keep the paint swatches coming they never decide what I say.
That’s the standard I hold this site to. If we ever fall short I want to hear from you directly.
One Last Thing
If you’re reading this, you’re probably the kind of person who reads About pages carefully. I respect that. Same here.
So I’ll end by saying this: there’s nothing wrong with your home. The advice that beauty costs a fortune was the problem. The problem was the industry only designs for big budgets.
This blog is a small effort in fixing that. I’m glad you found us.
